Fortinet recently unveiled its 2023 Global Ransomware Report at the RSA Conference in San Francisco. Based on interviews with hundreds of cybersecurity professionals from 31 different locations around the world, the Fortinet report found that the global threat of ransomware remains at peak levels.

Interestingly, while 78 percent of organizations stated they were “very” or “extremely” prepared to mitigate an attack, the survey found 50 percent fell victim to ransomware in the last year, and almost half were targeted two or more times.

You may be asking, “If organizations are prepared for ransomware attacks, why can’t they prevent them?” The report found that the top challenges to stopping a ransomware attack were people and process related, with many organizations lacking clarity on how to safeguard against them.

The report also points out that respondents who reported using multiple point solutions to prevent ransomware were most likely (67 percent) to fall victim to an attack. Organizations that had reduced their vendor overhead by consolidating to a small number of platforms complemented by point products were least likely (37 percent) to be impacted.

As ransomware attacks continue to evolve and become more sophisticated, forward-thinking organizations are up-leveling their prevention strategies. Almost all respondents in Fortinet’s report (99 percent) viewed integrated solutions or a platform as essential to preventing ransomware attacks.

While people and processes play a significant role in preventing ransomware the value of leveraging a unified platform approach cannot be overstated. With its industry-leading Security Fabric comprising more than 50 natively integrated, enterprise-grade products, Fortinet continues to lead the industry in helping organizations consolidate their point products into a unified cybersecurity platform. This platform approach, with open APIs and a robust Fabric-Ready technology alliance ecosystem, enables CISOs and security teams to:
